daveclucas.com was founded in 2005 to promote the Untamed Rivers of New Britain Expedition. In the same year the Benarat 2005 Expedition took place and I reported on its progress on my site.

The following year I took part in the Untamed Rivers of New Britain Expedition and my website was used for reporting the expedition's results.

A year later I took part in the Mulu Caves 2007 Expedition and, as there was still had no dedicated website for Mulu, I used my website for publicity of that expedition.

The Mulu Caves Project now has its own website and so all information regarding the expeditions can now be found there. I will continue to post items on this website which are not appropriate for inclusion there, basically my own personal involvement and things which I do related to Mulu but not as part of an expedition.

My involvement in Mulu goes back to the beginning of the 1990's when I first visited Dave Gill who worked there at the time as Cave Development Officer. I returned there every year and spent many hours exploring the park, the karst and the caves, sometimes alone, sometimes with Dave Gill and occasionally with other cavers.

Eventually I made the decision to live in Sarawak to be nearer to the Park and the local people with whom I had developed a strong attachment, so strong in fact, that I married one of them.

Now, more than a decade on, I spend much of my spare time researching the caves not just of Mulu but of the whole of Sarawak. I make regular visits to other areas and have been involved in expeditions to Laos and Vietnam. My website is the ideal place for me to share information about my activities with any interested parties. I always try to credit other people's involvement and provide links back to other sites where they exist.

There are never enough hours in the day to do everything I want so inevitably, updating of the website will be sporadic especially as I spend so much time in remote places away from computers.

The recent move to a web based Content Management System should enable me to update this site more easily and I'm hoping, in due course, to be able to invite other authors to place articles on this site.
